about

REVEREND "DETH" RAY JACKSON

As some people that knew him may tell you, Rev. "Death" Ray Jackson (1937-1995) was not a real reverend. A manic street preacher more likely. And a manic back alley preacher to be precise.

His manic ramblings about angels, demons and the coming apocalypse interested some, amused others, and kept the rest of the crwod at bay, Street thugs never hassled him.

Born in a small town in Oregon, he came to Texas and the southern and midwestern states by hitchhiking and iligally riding the freight trains. Armed with a small battery-powerd amp he played electric versions of old delta blues songs in the streets or in small bars. He was a rambling artist that made drawings and some paintings as well.

After he died all he left behind was a case with his tiny amp, a looping-pedal, a bunch of audio-cassetes and a sketchbook. Most of those items were lost, but once in a while something turns op.
This is one of those: a three track audio cassete with low-fi bedroom jammings made of layers and layers of guitar loops stacked on top of drummachine beats that make for a haunting musical landscape.

I hope you enjoy these echoes from a distant and rough life, and drink a beer for Rev. Jackson while you're at it.
